Oregon Delays Commercial Dungeness Crab Season After First Quality Tests

The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife has announced a coastwide delay of the commercial Dungeness crab season following the results of the first round of preseason meat quality and domoic acid testing.

All Oregon test areas met the required meat recovery criteria, but the area off Long Beach, Washington did not. Based on the Tri-State consultation, the Oregon commercial crab season is now delayed until at least December 16 while additional testing is completed. Full industry notice attached.

If Washington meets criteria in the next testing round, the Oregon fishery will open on December 16. Otherwise, agencies will reconvene, with another season announcement expected by December 7.
