The Oregon Dungeness Crab Commission (ODCC) is currently seeking a new commissioner to join its board.
This industry-funded agency, established in 1977, plays a crucial role in promoting and supporting Oregon’s Dungeness crab fishery.
The ODCC board consists of eight members, including five from the harvesting sector (crab fishermen), two representing crab processors, and one public at-large member. Commissioners are appointed to three-year terms by the Director of the Oregon Department of Agriculture.
The role of a commissioner involves participating in at least four public business meetings per year and contributing to the ODCC’s mission of enhancing the image of the Oregon Dungeness crab fishery through promotion, education, and research. Commissioners play a vital role in shaping the direction of the industry and ensuring its sustainability.
Potential candidates for the commissioner position should have a strong understanding of the Dungeness crab industry and a commitment to its sustainable development. They would work alongside other commissioners and staff to fulfill the ODCC’s primary functions, which include marketing and promotion, information dissemination, and supporting education and research initiatives.
